You may think that the silly comedies Wayne's World and Hot Rod are just that--comedies. However, I feel that each one is meaningful in their own ways, and I am going to describe the depth behind each movie.

Hot Rod (2007)

Hot Rod is about the misadventures

of Rod Kimble, an aspiring stunt man. Rod has spent his life performing mediocre stunts, but when his stepdad Frank is in need of a new heart Rod answers the call and plans the biggest jump ever to raise the funds needed for the transplant and save the day.

While the movie Hot Rod is about a young, somewhat childish stuntman, the movie isn’t all cheesy tricks and gimmicks. At its core, the movie is a heart warming story about a young man who only wants to earn the respect and love of his step-father. Rod will do anything to break down the wall that Frank puts up and be able to form a closer relationship with him but Frank, for whatever reason, refuses to be vulnerable. Rod's desire to be loved by Frank fuels his drive to succeed and accomplish the biggest jump ever.

Written by Pam Brady and starring Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, Danny McBride and Jorma Taccone, Hot Rod is a loving and funny film that has everything you could ever want in a movie; memorable one-liners, suspense, a dance number, and at its core a story about overcoming the odds in order to support those who matter most.

Wayne's World (1992)

Wayne's World

Written by Bonnie Turner, Terry Turner, and Mike Myers, Wayne's World is a classic comedy that is a spin off of the Saturday Night Live skit of the same name. Starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, Wayne's World is a comedy that references and plays off of pop culture, but it is also a social commentary on big business. Hosts of the show Wayne's World, Wayne and Garth, are offered $10,000 to sell their show to a cable company. Wayne and Garth immediately jump at the chance and they proceed to spend their earnings. As they start to get deeper in the process of making their new and "improved" tv show, Wayne's World starts to lose its originality and uniqueness through corporate sell-outs and obnoxious advertising. Wayne's girlfriend, who is an up and coming rockstar, also begins to lose her individual music style in order to be deemed promotable by her record label.

While a seemingly light-hearted comedy at first, Wayne's World is actually a story about battling corporate greed in order to keep indivuality and originality in tact.

I hope after reading this article you have have gained a new perspective on these two movies, and you realize that they are not what they appear to be on the surface. Now, go enjoy a comedy and try to find the meaning in it for yourself!
