Napoleon Dynamite (2004)

Filled with wonderful one-liners, relatable characters, and a groovy dance number, Napoleon Dynamite quickly became one of my all-time favorite movies. Napoleon Dynamite offers an authentic look at growing up as a below-average adolescent in rural America, and all the problems that come with it. The character, Napoleon, struggles with insecurity, dating, friendships, and nostalgic, football-crazed uncles stuck in the glory days but he overcomes it all through the power of dance. Napoleon Dynamite emulates the typical teen comedy, but with much more charm and wit. The subtle comedy keeps you entertained and provides an endless amount of quotable lines to share with your friends.

Heathers (1988)

The movie Heathers is the ultimate mean girls movie, centered on a conniving clique of popular girls who aren’t concerned about the lives they destroy in order to climb the social ladder. Complete with over the top snarky insults and dark comedy, Heathers is ‘big fun.’ The movie is told from the perspective of Veronica Sawyer, an intellectual 17 year-old who is tired of wasting her time being friends with the popular girls, who are all three named Heather. Veronica tries to break free of the Heathers’ grip by dating new student and bad boy J.D., but her life begins to take a dark turn. Veronica must decide how much she is willing to sacrifice in order to save herself and her entire school from a deplorable fate. Heathers comments on society’s mishandling of adolescent emotion in a dark and twisted way that leaves you thinking: “What’s your damage Heather?”
